Tax 2008 Stimulus Payment?

Do my 20 and 22 year old children, who are both attending school fulltime, qualify for the additional child tax credit? I am their sole provider

Tax 2008 Stimulus Payment?

Children must be under 17 to qualify for the child tax credit or the additional child tax credit. So you will not receive a stimulus payment for them.

Since they can be claimed as dependents on your tax return, they are not eligible to receive their own stimulus payments.

Tax 2008 Stimulus Payment?

No. That is killed off in the year that they reach age 17. And as they are still claimed as dependents they won%26#039;t receive a stimulus plan payment in their own right either.

Why would i get less on my tax return this year??

I am using my last check stub to file this year as I have not gotten my W2s yet. I made substantially more this year (almost $7000) so I thought I would get more back. ummm no. I recieved a significantly less EIC and child tax credit --not sure what the child tax credit was last year but this year my EIC was only $907 versus $2,027 last year.

Can anybody help? Maybe I should take this to a tax perparer?

Why would i get less on my tax return this year??

You can NOT file a legal return without your W-2 whether you e-file it or otherwise. There%26#039;s a very good chance that the amounts on your W-2 will not match your paystub. If that happens you%26#039;ll have to file an amended return when you get them.

If you don%26#039;t, you may get a nice CP2000 letter from the IRS in about 18 months explaining that your tax return and W-2 did not match. If more tax is due -- it happens about half of the time -- you%26#039;ll be hit with penalties and interest on top of the tax bill.

What you got back last year is totally irrelevant to what you%26#039;re getting this year. By your own words you%26#039;re getting less EIC so that would easily account for the difference. The CTC can ONLY eliminate your tax liability. Once your liability hits $0 it%26#039;s worthless to you.

If you insist on filing without your W-2, don%26#039;t waste a tax preparer%26#039;s time. They%26#039;ll just send you home to return once you have it in your hot little hand. No tax preparer will risk the wrath of the IRS by knowingly filing an illegal tax return and it ain%26#039;t legal without the W-2!

Why would i get less on my tax return this year??

Good luck. TFTP. Report It

Why would i get less on my tax return this year??

The more you make, the less EIC you are entitled to.

Why would i get less on my tax return this year??

Yes see a professional.

You cannot FILE your taxes with a paystub instead of W-2 until mid-Feb. IRS says NO.

EIC is a bell curve. Up to a point, the more you earn, the more you get back, but after that point, the more you earn, the less you get back. Have to understand that EIC is NOT your money, but extra money government gives people in certain tax brackets to help them out. You may be moving up to middle class!

Why would i get less on my tax return this year??

you cannot legally file your taxes with a check stub

not until the end of feberary if you can prove to the irs that you have tried evrtything to get your w2.

the reason you got less eic is because you made more.

the ctc is based on income, tax liability, and other things.

i do taxes

Why would i get less on my tax return this year??

EIC is based on earned income and number of children. More income lessens the EIC. The child tax credit is also income based and it is less this tax season than last. As far as filing without W-2s; most tax software allows you to do this, as long as you file electronically.

Shall i claim income support or tax credits?

currently i work part time, 16 hours a week and receive work and Child tax credits, i get 鎷?15 a month including child care fees. I also get 鎷?00 from work and child benefit. I am not in touch with my childrens father. I have a mortgage payment of 300 a month. Am i better off on income support or tax credits? Is there any place i can go to calculate this? The local jobcentre will not do it for me as they would prefer me to work. i have always worked and intend to return once my children are in school--- help!!

Shall i claim income support or tax credits?

I can highly recommend making an appointment with your local Income Maximisation Team who are part of the local Citizens Advice Bureau. They are fully up to date on all legislation regarding claiming benefits and know exactly the statutory amounts you would be entitled to with each benefit, whether they are taxable, if one cancels out the other etc. They are well worth a visit and are really helpful. You get to know exactly what is best for you and what your options are before you make a claim. I think they even have the claim forms there and can arrange to have someone experienced to help you fill them in. Good luck, God bless

Shall i claim income support or tax credits?

As far as I know there are no new applications allowed for Income support

Shall i claim income support or tax credits?

You probably are better off working 16 hours and topping up with benefits(financially and for self esteem) our CAB has someone who will calculate both ways fro you, give yours a call, also the job centre has an adviser for going back to work s/he will be able to helping

Shall i claim income support or tax credits?

I think its better tax credits cause , its not easy to get income support , but I think in your case you are intitled to tax credits.

http://www.taxcredits.inlandrevenue.gov....

try this link and check if you are able to claim or no.

best of luck.

Shall i claim income support or tax credits?

http://www.entitledto.co.uk/

The link above is a benefit calculator, may help. You are most definately better off staying as you are though, trust me, I%26#039;m in a similar situation. Good luck x

Shall i claim income support or tax credits?

If you claim Income Support you%26#039;ll receive 鎷?9.15 a week for yourself, your child tax credits %26amp; child benefit for your children, no help with your mortgage for 1st 39 wks of your claim then only 50% help towards your interest on mortgage slowly building to 100% interest over a period of time, your council tax paid, free prescriptions etc but you should already be getting these if receiving working tax credits.

You need to decide yourself from the figures above if you can afford to be at home for your children %26amp; still provide for them as you want to.

By the way did you see the news today about making Lone Parents get work or claim JSA when youngest turns 12 from next October, so if you was still claiming Income Support you%26#039;d have to look for work.

It doesn%26#039;t stop there, they also want to then reduce the age to 7yr olds a few years later.

Jobcentre won%26#039;t tell you this because yes want to keep you in work showing your children this is what adults do, they work for a living, its all about breaking the cycle of families who think benefit is the only option....its not.

Are you ready for the LARGEST TAX INCREASE in history?

What are you going to do if Bush fails to veto the spending bill the house has proposed? No matter what bracket you are in, your taxes are going to go up significantly.

TAX AND SPEND AT ITS FINEST.

%26quot;The Democrat%26#039;s budget calls for a tax increase of every tax bracket, slashes the child tax credit, raises the death tax, and reinstates the marriage penalty. And this is just a sampling, there is more. In all, the Democrat%26#039;s plan will cost taxpayers over $390 billion in the next 5 years. What is particularly frustrating about this ill-advised action is that the Democrats are blatantly ignoring the economic consequences and fiscal benefits that lower taxes have brought to the treasury the past few years. Revenue has increased in double digits the last two years alone because of the economic expansion encouraged by reduced taxation. This revenue growth has been crucial in reducing the deficit.%26quot;

Are you ready for the LARGEST TAX INCREASE in history?

Ouch! The federal government has already pushed me enough to consider suicide as an option again. (Don%26#039;t worry I%26#039;m not going to do it, so don%26#039;t call in the men with the white coats to bring me to a nice padded cell. Although, that does sound quite pleasant right now.)

What I don%26#039;t understand is the people that can%26#039;t see the facts before them. That all the government does is take. They don%26#039;t give us anything for the money they rob from us. And so many people are brainwashed into believing it%26#039;s the governments right to do so.

Edit: I honestly earn the meager paychecks and rent credits that I get each month. And I don%26#039;t want anything from the government, but to leave me alone and to take proper care of the people who have served this country.

Edit: See people truely believe we the citizens on the United States of America should be taxed to death. When in actuality the government should look at what they are spending %26quot;OUR%26quot; money on and cut all those programs that shouldn%26#039;t be in the budget in the first place.

Based on what we now know - the only way to balance the federal budget is by letting the tax cuts expire. Calling that a tax increase just shows how stupid and disingenuous the right really is.

It%26#039;s a great excuse to support more illegals, lazy people, and people who should %26quot;just have everything that the hardworking citizens of America have%26quot;.

Damn.

Are you ready for the LARGEST TAX INCREASE in history?

NO

We have HUGE tax bill and the EXTREMELY unfair Alternative Minimum Tax added $6000 to our bill and we lose many deductions because of it also.

Are you ready for the LARGEST TAX INCREASE in history?

So, who did you think was going to pay for Bush%26#039;s lunatic spending? If your figures are correct, which I very much doubt.

Wake up.

Are you ready for the LARGEST TAX INCREASE in history?

They will never understand how an economy works. If people have money they will spend money. This creates more jobs and in turn creates more spending. If we take the money out of peoples pockets they can no longer spend. If people are not spending then employers will have to down size. Now we have more unemployed people and even less spending. They need to pick up history book some time.

Are you ready for the LARGEST TAX INCREASE in history?

I am from the school of you play you pay .

Since we got lead down this primrose path to bankruptcy we must bail ourselves out .

I would do this by restructuring the tax system and make it a graduated program .

Those who benefit the most from all that society provides should pay more . Its just that simple .

Is it fair ? Who cares .

If the only way you can feel Good is to spend millions on yourself by buying mansions all over this and other nations and expensive art fancy exotic cars and live a completely self indulgent life then More power to you .

Fight to keep every penny you earn .

Oh yeah !!! . I forget you do not earn anything because flapping you lips never pulled a potato from the ground to eat . Chopped down a tree to build a table to eat it on or built the oven to cook it in .

A hard working man on his own should be able to provide his family with a home and car and food and vacations . This should be the norm .

Instead it represents very few Americans any more .

So yes a system that takes back from the rich what the working man had to pony up is fair to me .

Bush dragged us into this hole and we are all going to have to pay the piper .

That would be much easier if I knew he was sitting in a prison cell .

Are you ready for the LARGEST TAX INCREASE in history?

Somebody has to pay for the increasing deficit. Who would you suggest that be? We cannot continue to borrow and spend, borrow and spend, borrow more and spend even more without somewhere having to pay for it. Do you want your great grandchildren to have to pay for this excess spending we have today? When Bush took office there was a budget surplus and now we are looking at the largest budget deficit in history. Can we go on like this? I suppose you run your household on borrowed money. When you die your family will have to pay for your good life. Is that how you think?

Are you ready for the LARGEST TAX INCREASE in history?

Maybe people would have to sell the big car they drive that they do not need and mcmansions with two people living in them.

If a worker files a tax return and owes taxes before any credits, does he recieve a full rebate chec

Example: Family of four with a before child tax credits income tax of say $1200.00. Will the child tax credits lower their rebate to $300.00 each, or will they get $600.00 each. Or will they get $200.00 each to match their actual tax paid?

If a worker files a tax return and owes taxes before any credits, does he recieve a full rebate check?

Congress is still arguing over the rules for the rebate, so nobody can say for sure. But the last thing that was made public was that if your had income of at least $3000 for the year, you%26#039;d get a rebate of $300-600 for each of you (they aren%26#039;t being very specific yet), plus $600 for each child.

If a worker files a tax return and owes taxes before any credits, does he recieve a full rebate check?

If you owe tax, the credit will reduce the amount of tax owed.

The Rebate check has nothing to do with the taxes. Your rebate doesn%26#039;t depend on the taxes owed.

How much will my federal tax refund be if I had $0 taxes in 2007?

Married, 5 kids, 60k gross, 0 tax liability due to mortgage, taxes, child tax credit etc.

How much will my federal tax refund be if I had $0 taxes in 2007?

$300 of you, $300 for wife, $300 per child who is under 17.

However, the $0 tax liability is NOT after the child tax credit, but before. So if you paid $1200 in tax BEFORE that credit, bump this to $600 for you and $600 for your wife.

5) Married couple with two children, AGI is $35,000, federal income tax liability before child tax credit is $1,070.

Rebate is $1,070

Qualifying child credit is $600

TOTAL is $1,670

6) Married couple with two children, AGI is $80,000, federal income tax liability before child tax credit exceeds $1,200.

Rebate is $1,200

Qualifying child credit is $600

TOTAL is $1,800

How much will my federal tax refund be if I had $0 taxes in 2007?

The refund will be whatever was withheld from your wages for income tax.

How much will my federal tax refund be if I had $0 taxes in 2007?

If you are talking about a refund on your tax return it would be the amount of money you paid in federal taxes plus any refundable credits you qualifed for minus any self employment tax you owe if applicable.

If you are talking about the rebate:

300 for you

300 for spouse

300 for each of the children that was claimed as a dependent on your 2007 return that was under the age of 17

Can I get back some of the tax refund money that was offset for student loans?

My husband and I filed married jointly. The IRS approved a refund but it was offset because of a student loan in state default. He was going to school and then in 2005 I miscarried and was in bad shape so he had to quit school and take care of me and our other child. We just found out the treasury department took all of our tax refund because of his defaulted loan. I didn%26#039;t work last year because I was put on bed rest with this last preg. At least 2 months prior to filing taxes he had already made arrangements to make payments the collection agency for the student loan and they new that he would start making payments after getting our refund because could have paid off some other smaller bills and gotten caught up on rent, which would have freed up money to make monthly payment to them. They said nothing about a default.

Can I get any of the money back, I am not in default or anything? At least the child tax credit? We desperately needed that money. Is there any hope?

Can I get back some of the tax refund money that was offset for student loans?

Actually, YES, there is hope. It is under %26quot;Injured Spouse%26quot; clause. If you are under extreme financial hardship, you may be able to get SOME of your refund back. It is a difficult process (be prepared to send copies). Good luck to you.

How can I decrease my federal tax withholding?

Is there any way to decrease the amount of tax withheld from my paycheck? On my W-4 I already have 9 dependents-we have 4 children, just so we can keep more of our money from being withheld, and I believe that is our limit according to my accountant. We have only 1 income for a family of 6 people, and we are in the lowest tax bracket (15%), I already put 12% in our 401K and a large amount into an FSA for medical expenses. Due to the child tax credit, our refund is very large each year (over $5000!). Is there any way to keep more of our money each month instead of the government holding onto our money until we receive our refund?

How can I decrease my federal tax withholding?

You should be able to increase your W-4 allowances in order to reduce that year-end refund to a reasonable level.

Your accountant is referring to an IRS rule where an employer was required to forward W-4s claiming more than 10 allowances to the IRS. It%26#039;s not required anymore, but you should be prepared to provide proof because the IRS may ask your employer at some point to forward those W-4s.

A combo of your previous year%26#039;s return and the W-4 allowance worksheets where you calculated the max number of allowances you could take should be sufficient proof. But you should stick to what your accountant advises. After all, you%26#039;re paying good money for that advice.

How can I decrease my federal tax withholding?

You can add allowances until your withholding aproximates your ultimate liability. At your bracket each allowance reduces tax withholding by $525 per year or $20.19 per biweekly pay period.

How can I decrease my federal tax withholding?

Change your with holdings to exempt they will not take any taxes. The bad part about doing this is by paying no taxes you may end up with a bill.

Many people do this for 6 months out of the year so it kinda evens out.

How can I decrease my federal tax withholding?

Getting a $5000 refund each year IS proof that you could take more allowances. You could raise it a few more without having a problem. This asssumes that with the 9 you currently show, they are taking anything out for federal income tax - if they aren%26#039;t, then increasing the allowances wouldn%26#039;t make any difference.

If you are receiving EIC, you can also file a form W5 with your employer, and get some of that through the year also.

Economy stimulus tax refund clearification please?

Ok I receive a full refund on my taxes this year beacuse of child tax credit, so dose that mean I will only get $300 from this new tax refund or $300 plus $300 for each of my kids?

Economy stimulus tax refund clearification please?

If you are single and qualify, you should get $600 for yourself and $300 per child.

Economy stimulus tax refund clearification please?

Nothing has been voted on as of yet, its more complex most think but if your eligible for earned income credit my guess is you will get the $600 rebate for yourself and $300 for each child under 18.

Here is an article from CNN that explains more of the details:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/01/24/e...

Tax question related to employer reimbursed moving expenses: Do all reimburse have to be reflected o

My moving expenses were %26quot;grossed-up%26quot; and shown as part of my wages so that the after tax amount equaled the costs paid out on my behalf to the moving company, closing costs, and realtor fee. Is there a portion of these reimbursements that can be shown as something other than wages to reduce my net income? These reimbursements have made me ineligible for the child tax credit ($2,000) and has made my 2006 Roth IRA contribution ineligible for investment in a Roth IRA.

Tax question related to employer reimbursed moving expenses: Do all reimburse have to be reflected on my W-2?

Moving expenses appearing in Box 1 of your W-2 will not disqualify you from the child tax credit or Roth, since they can be deducted %26quot;above the line%26quot; and do not figure into your AGI which is used to determine eligibility.

Since your payments also included closing costs and realtor fees, which are not deductible, those have to be included in your wages in Box 1. Any extra payments to you to cover taxes must also be included as wages in Box 1.

What you can do now is use Form 3903 to deduct your moving expenses (but not the costs related to your house purchase). This will reduce your AGI to the level it would have been if the moving expenses had not appeared on your W-2.

Tax question related to employer reimbursed moving expenses: Do all reimburse have to be reflected on my W-2?

If your moving costs were included in your gross income on your Form W-2, they are fully deductible. File Form 3903 with your return to claim the moving costs.

Tax quesiton self employed?

Brother self employed. I am trying to help with taxes. On the 1040 form his itemized deductions (head of houshold and total deductions) is way more then his adjusted gross income. What his his taxable income for line 43? zero? He has the EIC and addtional child tax credit. Will he still be elgible for a refund?

Tax quesiton self employed?

taxable income is zero

refund is in the hands of Congress -- seems likely if he had earned income and children. Write your Senators and Congressperson.

Tax quesiton self employed?

There are nonrefundable and refundable tax credits. The child tax credit has a portion that is refundable. The EIC is a reufndable tax credit. The refundable credits he will get in a refund check even if his taxable income is zero. A nonrefundable credit will decrease his taxable income down to zero and the credits that are not used may be carried over to other years.

TAX, Direct Deposit?

I wonder if anybody has had this problem. My tax refund was direct deposited, and the state and federal were fine, but my child tax credit has not been deposited. It has been 3 days since the others were deposited. Has anybody had this issue?

TAX, Direct Deposit?

The child tax credit is not a separate item. It is a credit that was subtracted from the total amount of taxes you owed when you did your federal taxes. It would have reduced the amount of taxes you had to pay, which means your refund would be bigger because of it.

You only file two types of tax returns, state and federal, and so you only get two refunds.

Illinois Democrat Govenor proposes 20% tax reduction on business to stimulate economy, whats up?

Aside form the capital spending provisions - claimed to support more than 700,000 jobs in the state - the governor%26#039;s stimulus package also includes a $300 per child tax credit for Illinois taxpayers and a 20 percent tax cut for businesses that paid corporate income tax in 2007.

Businesses are not evil...without them, there are no jobs; it sounds simple, but the burden on businesses in many states that are in grave financial problems can directly be traced to virtually punishing businesses through outlandish taxes and other ridiculous burdens.

Illinois Democrat Govenor proposes 20% tax reduction on business to stimulate economy, whats up?

politics... is something like a woman and her weight. Never happy with it always trying to change it re-arrange it or make things appear bigger and better than they really are! tax incentives often bring in other businesses from nearby states and only increases economy in a small local area as it destroys it in another. Some businesses make a good return by always changing locations with each bigger tax break.

the 20% tax cut sounds good but did he have to throw in $300 per child!! Children do grow up, and I have found a never ending supply(of children) They always have to throw in the kids!!! They forgot the old so all bases can get covered.

Can i get tax refunds without filing previous years?

hello, i am going to file 2006 and 07 taxes and expecting refunds (EIC and Child Tax Credit). I did not file years 2004 and 2005 because i owed about $150 per year and i did not have the money to send so i didn%26#039;t bother file. I now realize that was a big mistake. I am hoping to recieve the refunds and pay what i owe for those other years plus all the unfair fees and penalties. Does anyone know if i can do this or will they stop me from getting the refund years until i pay those other taxes? Do i have to file those years first? Any help would be appreciated. : )

Can i get tax refunds without filing previous years?

yeah u can

Can i get tax refunds without filing previous years?

You have painted yourself into a corner. Now you have to

wait for it to dry. You don%26#039;t file when you owe. But you want

to file when they owe you. By the time you pay the penilty and

the interest, plus the tax. You may still owe more $$$$. %26lt;}:-})

Can i get tax refunds without filing previous years?

I was having that same discussion with a tax preparer from H %26amp; R block. I owe on 2005 taxes, did not owe on 2006 or 2007 taxes. I did not file any of these taxes yet. When I would file the 2006 %26amp; 2007 taxes it may or may not show that I did not file for 2005. The IRS are a few years behind on auditing. That was a chance I would have to take, if my name came up not filing that year, they would probably hold the return owed to me until the year not filed is settled. I waited to file because I did not have the money to pay them, so I figured I would wait and file 06 %26amp; 07 with 05, they would keep the money I owe and not have to pay in installments.

Can i get tax refunds without filing previous years?

I%26#039;m an inactive enrolled agent now. Recent experience with taxpayers who came to me have shown that the IRS now is assessing {and most of the 41 States that have income tax} what you OWE based upon what income was reported to them by the people you worked for, contracted with, proprietorships, associations, churches, partnerships you may have rented real estate out to; stock transactions reported by your brokerage, inheritances, rents, gain on sales or exchange, etc. So it is serious when you do not file, even for very good reasons [ one lady%26#039;s mother died and she was so stressed she forgot all about taxes. The IRS regards that as no excuse}. In other words, the IRS and the States do not even bother to check their computers to see what tax was taken out of you. If you sent in estimated tax, they count that.

The IRS forces you to give your social security number. Hence, the non-filing will show. They are approximately 19 months behind. That means your non-filing for 2004 and 2005 has likely been discovered by now.

Another reason they are not liable to send your refund first is they check with other government agencies to see if there is a debt claim against you.

You should go through your check-books, receipts, ledgers, diaries and other recordkeeping you used. Hopefully you can find enough expenses to itemize your deductions. Then file a 1040X for tax years 2006 and 2007. That%26#039;s the Amended return form. The three year limitation hasn%26#039;t expired yet. In other words, you may receive your refunds, but be prepared for a large tax bill, penalty and interest later.

Your number one priority is to have documentation. If you get harassed by the IRS, you should contact the taxpayer advocate first. That number is:

1-877-777-4778 or TTY/TTD 1-800-829-4059. There%26#039;s another number, but I%26#039;ve forgotten. I think I forgot to put it up on a website I used to have.

If you get no satisfaction from the taxpayer advocate, you should contact an Enrolled Agent. One that specializes in dealing with the IRS is the president of the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents, Mr. Winston Macon. I%26#039;ve met the man and heard him speak. He knows what he%26#039;s doing.

www.naea.org

It%26#039;s expensive, but if you feel you are in the right, you should stand up to the IRS. In 13 years of practice, I had two clients audited. Won both times, but I do not take credit. You pray a lot. Best to you.

Can i get tax refunds without filing previous years?

The IRS has a %26quot;refund hold%26quot; program. If you appear to owe on a missing return, your account will be flagged. You won%26#039;t get the refund for the current year until the missing returns are filed. This can be true even if you got a refund last year and the missing return is from 2003.

By not filing, your $150 owed is probably $300. There is a minimum penalty at 60 days of $100 or the amount of tax you owe, whichever is smaller. Interest and penalties have continued since then.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush's tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

I earn $50,000 per year. I have a wife and four children. Bush%26#039;s tax cuts saved me $1600 each year in the additional Child Tax Credit, or $12,800 in 8 years.

We are definately NOT the rich. We are barely middle class. Thank you George Bush for helping THIS working family.

PLEASE, Democrats, don%26#039;t raise taxes on my family again!

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

I%26#039;m not rich, either. As a single mom, I rely on those tax cuts. It%26#039;s what keeps me from going further into debt every year to pay taxes.

I guess they want us on welfare.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

The Democrats will rape the wallet of every American as soon as they get the chance...

GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE...

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

They already have the largest tax increase in history in motion. Get ready.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

Just for this I think you SHOULD pay more. And so should every one else for that matter. I am absolutely in favor of eliminating Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Maybe then we won%26#039;t be borrowing huge sums of money from the Chinese and making future generations pay for it. What kind of moron are you? What is wrong with fair and just taxation? Infrastructure like bridges, airports, rail transport, schools and much much more are going to further deteriorate if we don%26#039;t.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

We need to make tax cuts permanent.Ronald Reagan lowered taxes, and there was a growth in the economy and tax revenue. Raising taxes on the rich only cuts down the amount they spend, and keeps the middle class and poor from benefiting. I%26#039;m with you. Don%26#039;t raise our taxes. Truth seeker, Everyone loses from tax increases. I%26#039;m sorry but Reagan was right. His trickle down theory worked then, and it%26#039;s working now.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

Gotta watch those rich liberals who want to raise minimum wage and raise their own taxes to fund health care and education. The tax hikes are for the rich, a little loop hole closing if you like.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

no! but if they manage to fully take power, you and I will, regardless of the fact that tax revenue is up, even after the tax cuts. a lesson proved many times over, but one the left will never admit to.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

Ok, I am going to explain to you that this is much more then skin deep.

Everyone loves tax cuts. Who doesn%26#039;t? However, we have a huge budget and deficit right now that we didn%26#039;t have back when he introduced them. So, here is what would happen if we kept spending on things like Iraq and ballistic missile defense, and kept cutting taxes....

The money has to come from somewhere. If not from taxes, it would be borrowed. How does the government borrow? By issuing bonds. However, our dollar is crumbling. Foreign and domestic investors want to get paid. So, the government is printing more money. Now, to sell the bonds, they will have to pay a higher yield to adjust for inflation. Get me? The higher yield being paid means more debt. The dollar keeps crumbling, and there is more inflation.

Regular goods start rising in prices like the inflation of the 70%26#039;s. In the end, your money ends up being worth much less. Your employer has to pay more if you are to survive, and eventually cant afford it and starts laying people off. Kind of like what is starting to happen now.

Economics, my dear Watson.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

well someone has to pay for Bush%26#039;s spending habits. liberals told you those tax breaks were just loans to buy your vote, and now you are getting what you voted for.( Bush cashing a blank check with your signature on it, and the ability to hate democrats for collecting the funds)

but in reality, it probably won%26#039;t even bother a person in your tax bracket since democrats are all for child tax credits, that most neocons view as socialism.

reagan%26#039;s so called boost in the economy came at the expense of American jobs with deregulation of trade with china...a communist nation which American companies couldn%26#039;t possibly compete with even if everyone working for them made half the minimum wage.

Doesn%26#039;t anyone remember what happened to the savings and loans during the Reagan years?

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

No.

The effect on the markets will be very negative and there will be a huge sell-off of stock before the current capital gains tax rate expires at the end of next year. The Dems are totally clueless about tax policy. They think arithmetically in a world that demands so much more. They are so short-sighted and never seem to understand that cuttting taxes can (and does) raise tax revenues.

The markets will tank if the Dems win. It would be a loss for the private sector and a loss for America.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

Dear Brett: I%26#039;m sorry if the additional tax burden is hard on you. But if you are really interested in the long-term security of your children, you have to understand that we cannot keep spending our nation into debt. You have a family of six: that means that as of today, your family%26#039;s portion of the national debt runs about $174,000. That number is going up every second.

Today, there is no plan to solve the debt. We are spending money today and putting that debt on the back of your four kids, my three kids, and all the kids in America.

Here is a test. Would you borrow $200,000 today, knowing that you had no way of ever paying it off and that your kids would inherit that debt when you die?

Or would you rather pay off that debt yourself, and leave your kids clear and debt-free when you die?

If you chose the latter, then you should support repealing the tax breaks. Yes, it will cost you more now. But I think our generation has the mandate to pay for the things we use today. Loading the cost of today%26#039;s prosperity onto the shoulders of our children is just plain wrong.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

Please raise the taxes son the rich........somebody has to pay for this bullshit war!!

I am certain my taxes with not go up being in the middle class and having Democrats in charge!!

Your kids will be paying for the top 1%%26#039;s undeserved tax breaks for he rest of their lives.........%26quot;Thank you George Bush for helping THIS working family be in debt forever!!!!. Get a clue!!

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

Does this sound familiar?

THE SIMPLIFIED EXPLANATION OF THE TAX STRUCTURE

Bar Stool Economics

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for a couple of beers and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes according to our current tax structure, it

would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

The fifth would pay $1.

The sixth would pay $3.

The seventh would pay $7.

The eighth would pay $12.

The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that%26#039;s what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the

arrangement, until on day, the owner threw them a curve. %26quot;Since you are

all such good customers,%26quot; he said, %26quot;I%26#039;m going to reduce the cost of

your daily bar bill by $20.%26quot;Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so

the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.

But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they

divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his %26#039;fair share?%26#039;

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted

that from everybody%26#039;s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would

each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested

that it would be fair to reduce each man%26#039;s bill by roughly the same

percentage of total of what he had been paying, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).

The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 in stead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four

continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men

began to compare their savings.

%26quot;I only got a dollar out of the $20,%26quot;declared the sixth man. He pointed

to the tenth man,%26quot; but he got $10!%26quot;

%26quot;Yeah, that%26#039;s right,%26quot; exclaimed the fifth man. %26quot;I only saved a dollar,

too. It%26#039;s unfair that he got ten times more than I!%26quot;

%26quot;That%26#039;s true!!%26quot; shouted the seventh man. %26quot;Why should he get $10 back

when I got only two%26quot;

%26quot;The rich get all the breaks!%26quot;

%26quot;Wait a minute,%26quot; yelled the first four men in unison. %26quot;We didn%26#039;t get

anything at all. The system exploits the poor!%26quot;

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn%26#039;t show up for drinks, so the nine sat

down and had beers without him.

But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something

important. They didn%26#039;t have enough money among them all for even

half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how

our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most

benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being

wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might

start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier, or

not reinvest in the community.

it doesn%26#039;t matter. IT DOES NOT MATTER.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

Sorry, Charlie:

But Bush has ALREADY raised taxes on you. (And the working poor.)

$12,800 in 8 years? You call THAT saving any real money? lol

My god man...! You got bought: Hook, line, and sinker!

How does it feel to be a sucker for Bush%26#039;s sweet talk?

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

You mean the taxes on the RICH? I am all for it!

Also, I would rather pay for higher taxes verses hidden taxes on gas, so the gas companies can make record profits from their cr*p. I would rather get something FOR the taxes and not just so someone else could get rich off of the backs of people who are not much more than slaves to the establishments.

The Democrats say they will not renew Bush%26#039;s tax cuts. Are you ready to pay more taxes soon?

anything the Dems do on taxes won%26#039;t affect someone in your income bracket.

When filing income tax- Is it possible to file as "Single Parent AND "Head of Household&qu

...one or the other, %26amp; if so, which one is better? My situation is both (single parent %26amp; head of household- 2 kids, soon 2 jobs, no daycare expense). Also, when filling out tax forms for work...

%26quot;Personal Allowance Worksheet%26quot; - line E- Enter %26quot;1%26quot; if you will file as head of household on your tax return.... Do I enter %26quot;1%26quot;?...

%26quot;Employee Withholding Allowance Certificate%26quot;- line 5- Total number of allowances you are claiming...

And... although I won%26#039;t not have any daycare expense, can I still get %26quot;Child Tax Credit%26quot;?

If I accidentally fill it out wrong, what will happen (it%26#039;s so frikin%26#039; confusing...)? Thank you for any help.

When filing income tax- Is it possible to file as %26quot;Single Parent AND %26quot;Head of Household%26quot;, or is it one or...

You%26#039;d file either as single or as head of household - head of household has better tax rates. It%26#039;s possible to be a single parent but not eligible to file as head of household, but if you are providing over half of the expenses for the year to provide a home for one or more of your children, and they live with you for more than half the year, you can probably file as head of household.

The child tax credit is separate from the dependent care credit. You%26#039;ll get one $1000 child tax credit for the younger child - it%26#039;s only available for kids under 17.

If you fill out the W-4 with too low a number of allowances, they%26#039;ll take more out of your check, but you%26#039;ll get the extra back as a refund when you file your taxes. If you put a number that%26#039;s too high, you could end up owing when you file your taxes. If you can claim both children, you%26#039;d be OK with four or five allowances - you%26#039;d have 1 on line A, 2 on line D, 1 on line E and 2 on line G, for a total of six - I%26#039;d stay with 5 at most if you are expecting to take a second job since that can cause you to end up with too little taken out. But if you make under about $37,000 total for the year, you will probably be eligible for an earned income credit which could give you some extra money back.

I hope I haven%26#039;t confused you further.

When filing income tax- Is it possible to file as %26quot;Single Parent AND %26quot;Head of Household%26quot;, or is it one or...

head of household is a lower tax rate - Single is the highest tax rate

pers allow - yes 1 for yourself

ee w/h allow cert - ??? are you filling out a W-4 or a 1040?

if you have kids under 14, i believe you get the credit - read the instructions or see an accountant - you have a lot of dollars at stake it you screw up

When filing income tax- Is it possible to file as %26quot;Single Parent AND %26quot;Head of Household%26quot;, or is it one or...

There isn%26#039;t a single parent status. If you are head of household you can claim that but on the w-4 it is just married or single and the number or allowances. If you get the allowances wrong you will get a refund or pay with the tax return if you drastically underpay you may have a penalty.

When filing income tax- Is it possible to file as %26quot;Single Parent AND %26quot;Head of Household%26quot;, or is it one or...

Single parent is the same as head of household. But, you want to make sure and check off the box as Head of Household. For personal allowance worksheet, line E, yes you enter 1. For allowances you are claiming, probably 3. Child Tax credit is a separate issue from child care credit. Child tax credit is $1,000 per child, as long as the child is under age 17. So in your case, you should get $2,000 for a child tax credit. When filling out forms for your payroll dept, they should be able to help you fill them out with the proper amounts if you explain your situation to someone there. As far as your tax form, if you fill it out incorrectly, the irs should catch it and correct your tax return for you, resulting in either more money to you, or more money from you.

When filing income tax- Is it possible to file as %26quot;Single Parent AND %26quot;Head of Household%26quot;, or is it one or...

There is no filing status called %26quot;Single Parent%26quot;. In your situation you would file as Head of Household. Here%26#039;s how to fill out your W-4

Check %26#039;Single%26#039; on line 3.

Enter %26#039;1%26#039; on line E.

Enter %26#039;4%26#039; on line G.

Enter %26#039;5%26#039; on line H.

Enter %26#039;5%26#039; on line 5. This is the total number of withholding allowances that you are entitled to.

If you take a second job you should claim Single and enter %26#039;0%26#039; on line 5 for that job. You should probably also reduce the entry on line G of your primary job to %26#039;2%26#039; and the entries on lines 5 and H to %26#039;3%26#039;. You need to do this to avoid underpayment of taxes.

If you claim too many withholding allowances you%26#039;ll have a tax bill to pay at the end of the year. If you claim too few you%26#039;ll get the extra tax withheld at the end of the year but you%26#039;ll get smaller paychecks during the year.

When filing income tax- Is it possible to file as %26quot;Single Parent AND %26quot;Head of Household%26quot;, or is it one or...

Pepsi is correct, but with having two jobs you will also need to fill out the portion of the back of the W-4 for 2 jobs or 2 income earning family. You will probably find that you will fill out your W-4%26#039;s different for both of your jobs.

A good place to help you figure it all out is on the IRS website. They have a Withholding calculator that will help you figure it all out. They go through the process step by step.

You will not get Child Tax Credit for your 17 year old, but you will for your other child.

How much tax and ni will i have to pay on earning 鎷?08 per week?

i also get working and child tax credit. i live with my partner and our two children under the age of 16.

How much tax and ni will i have to pay on earning 鎷?08 per week?

Earning 鎷?08 per week and assuming you have the standard tax code of 503L you will pay about 鎷?.80 a month in PAYE and 鎷?1.40 a month in NI

How much tax and ni will i have to pay on earning 鎷?08 per week?

you%26#039;re living in a country that taxes the **** out you...like Massachusettes. I%26#039;d guess after the tea and stamp taxes you%26#039;d get to keep about 7 pounds.

How much tax and ni will i have to pay on earning 鎷?08 per week?

20% if you work 5 days a week you work one for stoppages.鎷?1 approx will be deducted,Let the tax credit people know as you may be able to get more money from them.

How much tax and ni will i have to pay on earning 鎷?08 per week?

I don%26#039;t think you have to worry about tax as your personal allowance of 5035 will cover that. Make sure you provide a NI Number. National Insurance is between 9.4% and 11% If you earn more than 鎷?7.00. So about 鎷?2.00. Still better to earn the 鎷?08.00 to get the pension entitlement.

How much tax and ni will i have to pay on earning 鎷?08 per week?

not that much , probably about 鎷? if that

How much tax and ni will i have to pay on earning 鎷?08 per week?

It will be a minimal amount on that -- even as low as 鎷?0 per week. Taking that into consideration it will be a very low amount of insurance.

How much tax and ni will i have to pay on earning 鎷?08 per week?

hardly anything!!

How much should I charge for tax preparation?

I just opened my tax prep. company and would like your opinions on REASONABLE tax prices. I was thinking of charging per form (e.g. 1040EZ, 1040A, Child Tax Credit, EIC, Itemized Deductions, Unreimbursed Employee Expenses..etc) I currently have clientel, but would like an official %26quot;price list%26quot; for walk-in customers. I also E-file and go to their home if necessary. Thanks!

How much should I charge for tax preparation?

Charge by the hour; some peoples needs are greater than others.

How much should I charge for tax preparation?

You should check out www.peoplestax.com and www.theincometaxschool.com. Both sites can be very helpful to people just starting in the tax business and even those who have been in the business for years. Good luck with your business! Report It

How much should I charge for tax preparation?

READ carefully all the new IRS Due Diligence requirements and your liability as a tax preparer. Everything changed dramatically this year. IF you have any reason to believe a client shouldn%26#039;t be getting EIC, you%26#039;re in trouble. Be Careful!!

Some preparers charge by time, some by # of forms. Often the professional software has a fee schedule.

How much should I charge for tax preparation?

On a normal small business scale, they charge about 60 thru 80 and between 22-44 for faster delivery on refund!

How much should I charge for tax preparation?

Maybe an hourly rate would be best.

How much should I charge for tax preparation?

Do not charge by the hour unless you will be doing complicated returns. Most common returns will take less than an hour to complete. Charge by the form and check out the going rate per form for your area.

Also, check to see what the requirements are in your state for a paid tax preparer. I would hope they would require some tax law training hours and continuing education hours each year to keep current on new tax laws. Don%26#039;t forget to add this cost in your rates.

I need tax help! any accountants out there??

I am so confused about deductions. my husband made several purchases for job-related items in 2006, amounting to about $4000.00. Our income (filing jointly) was less than $50,000, but when I tried to use the deductions, it said something about it being less than the %26quot;standard deduction%26quot; of $10,000 something. What does that mean? Can we not write off those expenses, or does the %26quot;standard deduction%26quot; take care of it?

Also, H%26amp;R Block said we were not eligible for the child tax credit (we have two kids). I thought you had to make $100,000 in order to no longer be eligible. I did our taxes myself to save $250 bucks, but we%26#039;re not getting near the refund I thought we would. Help??

I need tax help! any accountants out there??

If you%26#039;re married filing joint, you get an automatic standard deduction of $10,300. If your itemized deductions do not exceed $10,300, then it%26#039;s more beneficial for you to use the standard deduction.

Here is info on the child tax credit. You should be eligible if your children are under 17.

http://www.irs.gov/publications/p972/ar0...

I need tax help! any accountants out there??

If you don%26#039;t have more total deductions than the Standard they are wasted. Does he have or business or is he W-2? If W-2 should not be putting out that kind of $$.

On Child credit must be something else you are not mentioning as should be able if lived with you and have soc sec #s.

I need tax help! any accountants out there??

Unreimbursed employee expenses are itemized deductions. If your total itemized deductions do not exceed the standard deduction, it is better to use the standard. Email me if you want, I might be able to help a little more.

I need tax help! any accountants out there??

Get a referrals from family or friends you trust for a pro to do your taxes. It%26#039;s worth the money.

I need tax help! any accountants out there??

Sometimes, you are better off paying money to have a service performed for you that you are unable to perform yourself!

Job related expenses: If they are non-reimbursed business expenses assoicated with a job in which you get a w-2, only the amount in excess of 2% of AGI is used and added with medical expenses in excess of 7.5% of AGI, charitable contributions, mortgage interest and state and other taxes paid in order to determin if you can itemize or if the standard deduction should be utilized. If your husband was paid on a 1099 and this income is on a shedule F or C or if this is assoicated with rental property, then the expense can be deducted from the income received.

Child Tax Credit: If your children are were 17 at any part of the 2006 year, you are not eligible in addition to the aforementioned income limitations.

I need tax help! any accountants out there??

When itimizing you the program uses your standard deduction or your itimized deduction whichever is best. Also about the child tax credit if you zeroed out meaning your alternative minium tax is zero you don%26#039;t get that credit due to it being a nonrefundable credit:)

Question regarding the new Tax Stimulus program?

Just wondering if anyone knows how much a family of 7 (2 adults, 5 children) with an AGI of approxmiately $65,000 and a taxable income amount of $30,000 and child tax credit of $3400 might get back in the stimulus package. I have been on the government website and all they do is give you the %26quot;normal%26quot; 2 adults 2 kids scenarios and even those are a little confusing.

Question regarding the new Tax Stimulus program?

With that amount of taxable income, you will pay over $1200 in 2007 Federal Income tax, so you will get a $1200 rebate for the married couple. Since you qualify for a rebate, you will receive an additional $300 for each dependent child under 17.

Use the Kiplinger rebate tax calculator (link below) to compute your rebate.

Question regarding the new Tax Stimulus program?

Starting in May, the Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households. To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return. IRS will take care of the rest. Eligible people will receive up to $600 ($1,200 for married couples), and parents will receive an additional $300 for each eligible child younger than 17. Millions of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year in order to receive a stimulus payment. In most cases, payments will range from $300 to $600 for individuals and $600 to $1200 for joint filers. Taxpayers may receive $300 for each qualifying child. Payments could be less, depending on tax liabilty and Adjusted Gross Income. Phaseout reduction begins at $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers

Question regarding the new Tax Stimulus program?

Most likely $1200 for you and your spouse, plus $300 for each dependent child under age 17.

Tax question?

If I didn%26#039;t work in 2006 but worked the following year can I still file for earned income or child tax credit?

Tax question?

If you have no earned income in 2006, you can%26#039;t get the earned income credit for 2006. The child credit is generally non-fundable so you probably won%26#039;t get anything there either. If you work in 2007 you may be eligible for both depending on your income.

Tax question?

Did you mean work the preceding year? If you worked in 2005 and didn%26#039;t file, and are eligible for credits, by all means file now and get those credits. You won%26#039;t have any penalties if you didn%26#039;t owe taxes for 2005.

Tax question?

I would advice you make up ypur income(fantasize) Say that you were self employed. If you are single with the child, say you made $7K. In this case you make large faaat refund from government. As maybe your friend may use your ss# on their tax return claiming child care credit(you were a baby sitter). Tax question?

It is great that you know about the earned income tax credit, since so many that are eligible are leaving it unclaimed. Many people still don%26#039;t know about this credit or they think that it will affect their public benefits (but it won%26#039;t!). Make sure that you get the full benefit of this credit by staying far away from H %26amp; R Block or one of those other commercial places. The IRS has a program called VITA that does free tax preparation for households earning $40,000 or less. They can make sure that you get all your eligible credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit, the Dependent Care Credit, etc.

This is an absolutely FREE service. They can e-file and do direct deposit so that you can get your return back in 7-10 days. There is no need to get a refund anticipation loan, which is really nothing more than a high interest loan where you would be paying to borrow your own money. You have worked hard for your money and you should be able to keep it! To find a VITA free tax site near you, call the IRS at: 1-800-829-1040.

I work with the VITA sites in Nashville and know that it can make a huge difference for working families. www.unitedwaynashville.org/nwba.

How do you feel about the $400 billion tax hike being proposed by the liberals?

It will hit poor as well as rich so don%26#039;t think you are immune. Some of the proposed items include: Raise the 10% tax bracket to 15%, causing families who previously owed nothing to now pay taxes! Eliminate the marriage penalty, averaging $2,899. 3) Cut the Child Tax Credit in half involving over 31 million families. Old folks on fixed incomes will see taxes go up 156%. Single women will see taxes increase by $2,068.

How do you feel about the $400 billion tax hike being proposed by the liberals?

I just pray that there is a sensible Republican elected or the whole thing can just go bust.

How do you feel about the $400 billion tax hike being proposed by the liberals?

How do you feel about the $400 billion spending hike by the conservatives?

How do you feel about the $400 billion tax hike being proposed by the liberals?

I feel fine, because it%26#039;s not true.

I feel real fine about the tax increase they have proposed for the wealthiest 10% which will reverse the Bush tax breaks for the most wealthy.

I feel fine about no more tax breaks for Big Oil they have proposed. Another Bush - Cheney decision that ripped off tax payers. All while oil companies raised gas prices through the roof and had the largest profits ever recorded.

I feel fine about the proposal to close all the Corporate loop holes provided, yeah once again by the Bush Administration.

These are some of the REAL changes being proposed by the democrats.

Ripping off the poor and middle class has already been happening the past 6 years and it wasn%26#039;t at the hand of the Democrats. It was the Bush-Cheney Administration.

I'm on Disability/SII - can I get a tax refund check? Please help.?

I%26#039;ll try my best to give any info that can help you help ME figure out if I can get a check %26amp; fill out these forms. If you need more info, let me know %26amp; I%26#039;ll add the details.

I%26#039;m 25 / a single mom of 2 kids. The only income I got in %26#039;07 was SSI %26amp; Social Security Disability (the disability check was $190/month, SSI - ??)

I%26#039;ve got a 1040A form but I can%26#039;t figure out how to fill it out %26amp; if I need any other forms. I don%26#039;t know what to fill out for line 14b (taxable amount for social security), line 30 (credit for the disabled - Schedule 3), line 32 (child tax credit), %26amp; line 40a Schedule EIC?. Also do I need form 8901? Could my parents have filed my kids since they financially provide for them, %26amp; if so is it to late to do that? I have never filed taxes, should I be able to since I get SSI %26amp; disability?

I receive approximately $650 a month and I%26#039;ve got 2 kids, and somehow the gov%26#039;t thinks that this is enough to provide a life. They claim this is maximum me %26amp; my kids can get.

I%26#039;m on Disability/SII - can I get a tax refund check? Please help.?

SSI does not qualify as income for the rebate. only your disability would cound towards the rebate and if you got 190 a month for SSD you come up short of the 3000 needed. Sorry

I%26#039;m on Disability/SII - can I get a tax refund check? Please help.?

It really depends on the state you live in. If your state has state tax they usually offer a sales tax credit refund for low income families. Your income was not sufficient to be required to file a federal income tax form. You can only get tax breaks and the earned income credit on earned income. Your disability and ssi are not taxable. If your income was not earned income, you can not file on your children. Usually, if your state offers a sales tax refund, you would have already receieved a check from the Department of Human Services. I think the bright spot in all of this is the fact that the additional rebates that are coming out in May or June are definitely coming. You will not qualify for the $600 but you do qualify for $300 being on social security. Hope this helps!

Government tax refund. How much to expect?

Each year I have to file a different amount of dependents. My ex and I switch off. We have 3 kids together. One year he claims one and I claim 2, and then the next year we switch. But I always list all 3 kids for the additional child tax credit, which I know is okay to do since they all live with me. So with this additonal refund coming this summer how is the government going to determine what to give me? Will I get the amount for all 3 since they actually live with me?

Government tax refund. How much to expect?

No one knows yet as we%26#039;re waiting for the SEnate to act. It%26#039;s still just TALK.

Government tax refund. How much to expect?

Go to HR Block website they have a tax return estimator and it%26#039;s pretty accurate.

Government tax refund. How much to expect?

No, no, no, you need to amend.

When you %26quot;switch off%26quot; you are signing a form 8332 to the non-custodial parent. This includes both the $3400 exemption AND the child tax credit. The additional child tax credit is part of the child tax credit, so you can%26#039;t claim all the kids on that form if you didn%26#039;t claim all of the kids as dependents in the first place.

As for the rebate, the IRS will guestimate based on what is shown on your 2007 taxes. If there are 2 kids on the form, they will think you are filing 2 in 2008.

Please help - low-income married couple in San Francisco, California needs tax advice?

Hi everyone,

Together we gross less than $75K, we don%26#039;t own property, we have three children together, and I have a son from a previous marriage, to which I pay child support.

We want to file jointly in order to benefit from the Child Tax Credit, but because our returns are fairly simple, we would like to save some money by e-filing at home as well as not having to worry about my wife losing her refund due to my child support.

Do we need to include form 8379 (Injured Spouse) in order to make sure my wife receives her refund, and if so, what kind of a delay does that create by e-filing? Will we still be eligible for the 2008 rebate check? Is there anything else we should do to maximize our return?

Thank you in advance for your time and knowledge!

Please help - low-income married couple in San Francisco, California needs tax advice?

Sounds like you have too many issues for you to handle and file on your own. If you owe past due child support, there is no way for your refund to be safe, esp if filing jointly.

To make the most of this, I suggest going to an accountant. H and R block does things cheap, esp if they can get more money back for you.

Please help - low-income married couple in San Francisco, California needs tax advice?

You stated you are paying your child support. If you are paying your child support and current on the child support there is no reason to file the injured spouse form.

Please help - low-income married couple in San Francisco, California needs tax advice?

Hello, There are a # of sites to use...To pick a good one go to IRS site..they will provide list for you to choose from...Depending on how you file...it may be FREE...FIRST....You might want to get 2 of each...1040..1040A...and ez ...fill them out several ways just to see which is better...joint...head of household...or joint filing separate....then you can go on-line ...fill out the one (or more if deciding to file separate) on-line that provided best $ return on paper....DO direct deposit...you will get it faster...You will automatically get child tax credit no matter how you file...that credit goes by how much you make... that is why it is better to get paper ones...fill them out with both you together then separate...also you might be able to get more earned income credit...filing separate...yes on the 2008 rebate ck...everyone under $ amount...even if didn%26#039;t need to pay any tax... is eligible...Why would wife be concerned about not receiving hers...garnishment?...school loans...judgements?...otherwise it should be no problem... God Bless!!...Mary

Please help - low-income married couple in San Francisco, California needs tax advice?

You state that you%26#039;re paying child support. That shouldn%26#039;t have any effect at all on your tax status ... millions of parents all over the country are doing the same thing.

If what you actually mean is that you are in *arrears* on your child support payments and that your tax return might be intercepted by the IRS to pay those back payments -- then yes, your wife definitely should file the Injured Spouse form. This will protect the amount of the refund that%26#039;s due to her income from being taken by the IRS, but would allow them to take the portion of the refund that%26#039;s attributable to you.

Since you weren%26#039;t too clear in your original post, I can%26#039;t give you any more specific advice.

Please help - low-income married couple in San Francisco, California needs tax advice?

Filing the injured spouse form will take up to 6-8 weeks to process.

If you file as married filing separately, you still get the child tax credit, but not a child CARE credit, education credit, or many others.

Rebate check - if your refund is offset for child support, your rebate most likely would be also.

PLEASE! Need 1099-MISC tax help?

I made $4,250 last year doing freelance voieover work for two agencies. I received 2 1099-MISC for the work done. This has taken my refund down by a total of over $2100 (fed %26amp; state combined). My child tax credit for my son is gone. I owe so much to the state of CT that my minimal federal refund can%26#039;t even cover it. Why would they take 1/2 of the money I made? This is very frustrating. I have figured this out on TurboTax and H%26amp;R Block online as well as talked to an H%26amp;R Block rep (who wanted $470 to file my taxes). Grrrr!!

PLEASE! Need 1099-MISC tax help?

Since you are not an employee to the business (freelancer), they consider you as a self employed even though you do not operate a business. 1099 misc without expense is subject to the self employement tax (15.3%) in addition to the income tax in form 1040. without further detail of the whole return, cannot explain why reduce the refunds. I hope the above helps on questions on 1099 misc.

PLEASE! Need 1099-MISC tax help?

Sounds like you are operating a small business. If so you should consider filing Schedule C and claiming business related expenses. If you own your own home you may want to consider the home office business deduction, Schedule E.

PLEASE! Need 1099-MISC tax help?

fill out your form again, as if you were operating a business. this way your money will be put into social secrity. i do the same type of thing with my mom, i make phone calls, she pays me and we file the 1099. i put it on a sch c, i also run a small business, again on a sch c. if you do not have expenses, that%26#039;s ok, just see if doing it as a business will help you recover some of your refund. my income is absorbed due to other income in the household, so i can%26#039;t honestly tell you how it is affected. it%26#039;s worth a try.

Can I file a 2007 Tax Return ?

I lived on savings in 2007 and had no income for the year. I am in the ministry. Can I file to claim EIC for my two children and possibly child tax credit?

Can I file a 2007 Tax Return ?

Check at www.irs.gov.

Can I file a 2007 Tax Return ?

No. You had no income.

Can I file a 2007 Tax Return ?

the EIC is an EARNED income credit. no income, no credit.

Can I file a 2007 Tax Return ?

To claim the earned income credit, you have to have earned income.

Can I file a 2007 Tax Return ?

you can%26#039;t.. bcoz u didn%26#039;t had income.

Can I file a 2007 Tax Return ?

You can%26#039;t claim NEGATIVE income (a credit against 0 income). However, you should file anyway, to put in the IRS records a year with 0 income. Then, if your situation changes in 2008 and beyond, you can use income averaging (using the $0 income in 2007 to reduce your average income) to pay lower taxes over the next few years. Check with a tax accountant on this.

Can I file a 2007 Tax Return ?

Income averaging went away in 1986.

Can I file a 2007 Tax Return ?

No, the EIC is EARNED income credit, so no income means no EIC. And you wouldn%26#039;t get the child tax credit or additional child tax credit either with no income.

Can I file a 2007 Tax Return ?

You can%26#039;t claim EIC. Also, you may not be able to qualify for Child Tax Credit. However, you may qualify for the Additional Child Tax Credit.

Do single mothers receive more of a tax return vs. married mothers?

My fiance and I plan to get married before this year is up, but I was wondering if it is wiser to wait until 2008 to get married for a bigger refund when it comes to tax time? I make around $10k a year, and he makes around $26k. Would I get a bigger tax refund if I claimed single, with one dependent and he claims single, or if we got married and did a joint return would that be better? I only ask because we really could use the money to get a better house. Last year he claimed our daughter and I claimed single. He got about $3400 total but I%26#039;m not sure how much exactly was from the child tax credit. So basically do married couples receive more of a refund, or would a single/unmarried mother?

Do single mothers receive more of a tax return vs. married mothers?

No offence at all. and i dont want to sound like doctor phil. if yo really truely love eachother and you will be happy togther then money shouldnt be a problem and remember money doesnt but happieness but it can destroy it REMEMBER THAT!!!!!!!!! and think how hrd it must be for you child to have a mom and a dad who arent married. and to answer your question it depends on your state like NY you will not get as much money back if you both claim the child. hope this helps

Do single mothers receive more of a tax return vs. married mothers?

It%26#039;s really down to your total income. And in your case, the EIC will be a major part of your refund. (And if your income was the same last year, it probalby would have paid more if you had claimed your daughter, by the way.) If you are married you probably will be very near the upper range of the EIC on a joint return and will not likely get much at all. With your income filing as Head of Household you%26#039;ll come close to maxing out the EIC payment.

If you claim your daughter this year, your EIC will be about $2,747. If he claims her his will be about $966. If you get married and file a joint retun, you%26#039;ll get nothing for the EIC.

This assumes of course that you are both the parents of your daughter. If he is not the true father then he cannot claim her and legally would have to file an amended return for last year and pay back any excess that he received.

Do single mothers receive more of a tax return vs. married mothers?

Figure your estimated taxes three ways: if you were married, and if you were single with one or the other of you claiming your daughter.

If you are both the biological parents of your daughter, if he claims her he%26#039;d get more for the exemption and child tax credit than you would, and could file as head of household, but if you claim her, you%26#039;d get a larger earned income credit which would probably more than make up for the exemption and child tax credit. If you get married in December and file a joint return, you%26#039;ll get the full benefit of the exemption and child tax credit, but no EIC.

So purely based on income tax, you%26#039;d most likely be better to plan a January wedding, and you claim your daughter for the year. You%26#039;ll both file as single: neither of you will be able to file as head of household - with those two incomes, you%26#039;d be hard pressed to show that you paid over half of the expenses of maintaining the household, and he won%26#039;t have an eligible dependent so can%26#039;t file as head of household.

Do single mothers receive more of a tax return vs. married mothers?

If you file as married, you will not receive any Earned Income Credit. The greatest refund occurs when you file as single and claim yourself, and your fiance files as head of household and claims the child. The net refund between the two of you is about $885.

If you file as single and claim the child, and your fiance files as single and claims himself, your net refund between the two of you is about $650.

If you married before the end of the year and filed a joint return, you owe about $500 before withholding.

Do single mothers receive more of a tax return vs. married mothers?

Get married before Dec 31, 2007 this year.

Liberals, since Bush's tax cuts did nothing to help the poor...?

you won%26#039;t mind if in 2010, Congress lets expire the increased child tax credit, marriage penalty relief, and the 10 percent income tax bracket , right?

Liberals, since Bush%26#039;s tax cuts did nothing to help the poor...?

The worse thing that could happen to the poor is if the Bush tax cuts are repealed. We need to make them permanent. The rich are already paying out the nose in taxes. What is wrong with giving them a break as well.

Liberals, since Bush%26#039;s tax cuts did nothing to help the poor...?

I don%26#039;t how they can say tax cuts do nothing for the poor. When you give tax breaks to people who HIRE people, you are helping everyone.

Liberals, since Bush%26#039;s tax cuts did nothing to help the poor...?

pretty insignificant when you compare it to the taxbreaks for the ultra rich.

Liberals, since Bush%26#039;s tax cuts did nothing to help the poor...?

Despite what everyone keeps touting, the tax code is still pretty lopsided as far as who is contributing to the federal revenue. Middle-class to low wage earners only contribute about 30% of the total tax revenue collected.

I see this as a problem in the progressive tax system, a smaller portion of the population are covering the bills for the government.

I am sure that wealthy Americans don%26#039;t fret over their tax bills. I think any American who has become wealthy in this country gladly pays the amount of money the government asks of them.

Even tho middle-class America pays a smaller portion of the government%26#039;s bills, this income level is in need of tax relief. Increases in the cost of energy, medical insurance, and other staples is eroding the disposable income of the class of people who drive our economy.

Middle-class America may not be paying a proportionate amount of federal taxes, but it drives not only our economy but most of the global economy as well.

I believe we would benefit from a tax overhaul in this country. I see a combination of a federal sales tax and a progressive tax for wealthier Americans as a possible cure for both deficit spending and tax relief for middle and lower income wage earners.

The government should apply a 6% sales tax on all goods and services sold in the USA. A progressive income tax should apply on incomes of over $100,000 per year at the current established rate, with a $6000 tax credit.

There would be many benefits to this type of tax structure. Most people would be tax only on what they spend, not what they earn and save. It would increase federal revenues by over $600 billion, which would elinimate the deficit. It would collect taxes from the underground economy, which has no measurement as to its size in the USA, as people who deal in unreported cash businesses like drug dealers and prostitutes would be taxed on the products they buy.

Liberals, since Bush%26#039;s tax cuts did nothing to help the poor...?

It is sad to think that they will actually let the Bush tax cut expire. Aren%26#039;t they making enough from us at the gas pump? I can%26#039;t even imagine the economic damage it would do. This tax cut brought our economy back to it%26#039;s feet after the Clinton Bubble Burst. Finally, isn%26#039;t taxing the rich penalizing the individuals who do well for themselves? Would this tax apply to our congress and senate who are sitting pretty in DC? Of course not!

How long will tax credits take?

Myself and my wife put in a claim for child tax credits and w/t/c.....its been over 8 weeks and we have sent in the birth certificate of our son and i think they have just received the birth certificate.....does anyone know how much longer we will be waiting for the claim to go through????? Help please

How long will tax credits take?

If you have any more problems with these defects, ask for the address of their EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT. I did when they were asssing me about for months and months, and lo and behold, solved together with a 鎷?0 cheque for my inconvenience. It would have been solved had I done that in the first place.

You must remember (I have worked in 3 call centres and the staff are NOT PROPERLY TRAINED ) and the team leaders take their side. If this does not work, go to your C.A.B. they are wonderful, or next step your MP if you can find him/her. Best of all enlist the help of a newspaper Much love Camilla been thru it. It is a blooooody disgrace especially with a child. Bet their claims are on spot.

How long will tax credits take?

Oh dear, you could be drawing your pension. The best thing is to get on to them regularly on the pretext of checking they have all the info and asking them how long it will take.

If they dont do it soon and you get really short of cash, your local tax office can do an interim payment (which they knock off your payments in months to come). You can always bluff and say youre fed up waiting, terrible service, public office, youre going to complain to your MP. They may get a move on then. I waited 12 weeks at one stage for mine to come through and I have known some longer than that.

How long will tax credits take?

It shouldn%26#039;t take this long. Ring them and chase them up about it.

Ask them what date did they receive the claim, as it will be from this date that they will pay your credits from.

How long will tax credits take?

You need to call them for this answer.

They are usually very quick.

Council Tax Reduction?

My partner was made redundant a year ago and we are now living on my part-time wage (contracted for 18 hours a week) which varies depending on overtime between 鎷?00 to 鎷?50 a week. I receive Working Tax Credits %26amp; Child Tax Credits. We have two children. Am I entitled to a reduction in Council Tax and if so, what does applying involve?

(I thought I%26#039;d check out opinion here as it will probably be simpler than approaching the council!)

Council Tax Reduction?

Check out:

www.entitledto.co.uk

However if you get working tax credit you won%26#039;t get a reduction in Council Tax. We are in the same boat, dependent on one minimum wage and we get no help at all. We%26#039;ve fallen so badly behind with Council Tax payments that we are being taken to Court for it.

Council Tax Reduction?

just go to your local council estate office and ask for council tax bennefit forms fill them in and return them

Council Tax Reduction?

Do what Ricky said

Council Tax Reduction?

If only take in 600 a month and have 2 kids, you cant have a single penny left after you have paid your bills.

You usually only get a discount if you are on income support, or disability allowance, but its worth applying for the discount. You can fill the form in online.

http://local.direct.gov.uk/LDGRedirect/i...

Im not being rude by saying this, but if you are in financial difficulty you should start full time hours. And your partner should go back to work, asda are always recruiting and they would make more friends as well as have extra money coming in.

Really 鎷?00 a month for a family is no where near enough to make ends meet, and there is nothing worse than worrying about money.

Good luck!

Council Tax Reduction?

It%26#039;s along time for your partner to be unemployed. I thought there was loads of work. Thus the reason for letting so many immigrants in. Good Luck.

Council Tax Reduction?

there are loads of jobs out there if you need one. m and S have brilliant packages for people in your partners position, major supermarkets are very supportive, he can re-train or even take voluntary work to get experience to get a new paid job

i think either he needs to get a job or you need to work a full week.

People should not rely on charity from the government - after all you are already getting a big package of handouts

Am I responsible for paying my new husband's past tax debt?

We were married last year and will be filing out taxes together this year. My husband owes money to the IRS (due to a poor business decision that he made while self employed a few years back) that he makes monthly payments on. He has said that if he has been owed a refund in the past that it was just applied to his debt. If we file jointly will our joint refund automatically go towards his tax debt? Also, we have a young son and cannot take the child tax credit or deduct his childcare expenses if we file separately.

Am I responsible for paying my new husband%26#039;s past tax debt?

You can file an injured spouse form and your part of the refund would not be taken.

Am I responsible for paying my new husband%26#039;s past tax debt?

Yes, unless you file as %26quot;injured spouse.%26quot; It%26#039;s in your best interest to help him pay off the debt asap.

Am I responsible for paying my new husband%26#039;s past tax debt?

Well, you guys are married now. It sucks that he came into the marriage with debt from the past, but if you plan to be with him, it has become your debt as well. If they don%26#039;t take the money now, you will be making many other future payments and if you are sharing money, then you will be paying it anyway. I would go ahead and get it paid back as soon as possible, so you don%26#039;t have to deal with it in the future.

I don%26#039;t think it matters if you file together or separately. They are still going to put your refund towards his debt. When I was first divorced, they tried to take my refund and put it toward child support that my ex owed me! Bottom line - they have record that you are married. Therefore, his debt becomes yours.

Your refund will get snagged by the IRS if you file jointly. It doesn%26#039;t matter to them that the debt was incurred before the marriage. There is a form you can fill out regarding being an Innocent Spouse, but I am not sure about the details or what is required.

There%26#039;s some good advice and some stupid advice here. You%26#039;re married and together and can file MFJ or MFS. If you file separately you%26#039;re right you can%26#039;t get several credits. Almost all(90%) married couples benefit taxwise from filing jointly. If the tax debt predates your marriage, then you can file as aninnocent spouse (you would be injured by them taking the whole refund) and the IRS will attribute some of the refund to each of you. His will be grabbed and your share will be paid out. He is acting responsibly and paying on it monthly, and will eventually get it off his back. Why not use this opportunity of starting life together and new beginnings, by wiping out this debt? I see it as a test of your commitment to this marriage.

When you married him, you married his debt too. Filing separately is legal, and would allow you to get a return, even though he has the debt. Ultimately, though, it閳ユ獨 both of your finances that are going to have to pay his old debt. So, even if you get a return, you閳ユ獟l have to spend money to pay back the govt. And we all know that they will get their money. With the tax cut you get for getting married, it閳ユ獟l be a good idea to still file jointly, take the hit to your taxes, and be that much closer to getting that old debt settled.

Injured Spouse Allocation form 8379 puts a wall between your refund and his debt.

If you live in a community property state, don%26#039;t plan on the money until you get it. California, Idaho and Louisiana law, for example, allows the IRS to take the entire refund of the injured spouse for back taxes.

If you get EIC, this is a federal program, not a state program. It%26#039;s allocated based on income, but the amount allocated is never more than what is showing on the tax return.
