My 15 year old filed taxes for first time,on her own, can i still claim her for earned income credit

i am single father and she lived with me i know i cant claim her as dependant but can i on the child tax credit and earned income credit

My 15 year old filed taxes for first time,on her own, can i still claim her for earned income credit?

You can claim her if she filed that someone else can claim her as a dependent. You need to look at her return and see what it says.

My 15 year old filed taxes for first time,on her own, can i still claim her for earned income credit?

yes as long as she didnt file on her taxes that no one else could claim her. i think you can claim her untill 18 unless she is still in school (college) then its like 24.

yes i think theyre allowed to make so much..... you still provide and take care of her

the first answer is the correct one make sure she filed properly

not if her ss# was used already.. it doesn%26#039;t matter if she filed for herself or if someone else filed for her, her ss# has been used and if u file to receive the EIC and the IRS finds out, ur gonna owe that money back. Some places can actually see if her ss# has been used already to.. Be careful..

Why is she filing anyway?

I think that if you can%26#039;t claim her as a dependant, you are not eligible for the child tax credit. At least that%26#039;s what I was told.

If she claimed herself as a dependant than I know you can%26#039;t but at 15 she probably didn%26#039;t. If someone else claimed her as a dependant like your ex-wife, then you also couldn%26#039;t.

My tax lady said that if you are helping your child out by giving her money or buying food, clothes, etc., you can claim child as dependant.

Unless your 15 year old supported herself, she%26#039;s your dependent as soon as she lived with you for more than 6 months.

As your dependent, you are also entitled to child care, child tax and EIC.

When she filed, she was to indicate that she was a dependent. Her wage income upto $5350 isn%26#039;t taxed, so presumably she was filing to get any taxes withheld back.

(If she goofed and claimed her exemption when she shouldn%26#039;t have, you file on paper and she amends to take the $3400 off of her return.)

You can claim her if she earned less than $3,400 and nobody else can claim her.

Why do you say you can%26#039;t claim her as a dependent, you most certainly can. Until she is age 19 and 24 if she is a full time student, she can earn as much as she can and you can still claim her. Along with the dependent you can also take all of the credits. She files her return showing that someone else claims her on their tax return.

I was told last year by my accountant that the earned income credit stops when your child turns 16. ??????????
