Tax money??

Ok so my last question was not thorough enough... Here it is again. My husband made $3100 income last year. They only took $4 for FICA. Today we filed and we get $47 back. We have 3 children under 17 that we claimed and no idea why we do not qualify for the child tax credit which would give us a higher return. Last year, I made less and paid in less but still got back over $4000. So is this bonis check this year affecting my return? Why aren%26#039;t we getting more back this year? I was unable to work and I have a disabled son on SSI, are there any loopholes I can use to get more money back?

With only $3,100 in income for the year you don%26#039;t owe any Federal income tax. Any that was withheld would have been refunded. You may be eligible for the EIC and should have received something for that -- double check your tax return as $47 does not sound right. You should have receive something like $1,250 for the EIC if you%26#039;re eligible.

(And $4.00 for FICA isn%26#039;t right on income of $3,100 either, not that that has anything to do with your income tax.)

As to the stimulus plan rebates, you have more than $3,000 in qualifying income so you should receive something there as well, up to $1,500 possibly.

See the link to the stimulus plan rebates on the top of the IRS home page at http://www.irs.gov

Well first if your husband made $3100 and only had $4 dollars of FICA withheld then the company is going to have a major problem. They should have withheld around $237.

Now comes the question...do you know what FICA is? It is basically Social Security Tax...and has very little if any thing to do with Income Tax. I think you mean that they withheld $4 of income tax.

Now to the child tax credit....that is not a refundable credit...it simply lowers your tax liability. However, if you income is large enough...the %26quot;Child Tax Credit%26quot; will rollover to the %26quot;Additional Child Tax Credit%26quot; and the latter is a refundable credit. However, $3100 in taxable income isn%26#039;t gonna to get you there.

It seems to me that you husband had $4 withheld in taxes and your getting $43 dollars in EIC.

Hope this helps

You didn%26#039;t qualify for the child tax credit because your income was too low. (You will apparently qualify for $1500 from the stimulus package.)

Apparently your husband had self employment income and any eic went to pay the SE taxes. (It also sounds like he paid to have a preparer do the taxes.)

The rebate check is not effecting your refund. It is completely separate.

How did you file? With the Child Tax Credit, you can only get back what you paid in tax. However, you should be eligible for the additional child tax credit due to your income. Then you can be refunded more than you paid. That%26#039;s what may have happened last year.
