my husband had a pay rise of 鎷?0 a week a short while ago so the tax credits reduced child tax by 鎷?0, so i have just been offered a dinnerlady job of 鎷?2 a week will they reduce this from my child tax credits (which is currently 鎷?8 per week), meaning i am only earning 鎷?6 more for working?

Have you factored in time and travel costs as well?!....the tax credit system does nothing to help people in this situation ..it only traps people into income levels they have no way of improving. It was supposed to help family%26#039;s to have a better life but just puts pressure on people not to do overtime etc (not a guaranteed income ) in favour of the regular tax credit payments. As for the waste involved in administering this farcical system I am sure more people would benefit if they based awards on the year it actually is and not the previous year. Income can vary both up and down ......something they don%26#039;t seem to have grasped properly .

Tax credits are the bane of my life, I don%26#039;t even bother trying to claim anthing now as they always tell me that I OWE THEM at the end of the tax year.

Yeah they robbed me and the gf with stuff like that too... just the way it works, in fact I would get more money if i quit my job and went on the dole.

Im not sure how it all works. My partner got taken on by the company from an agency and earned 鎷?5 per week more and i informed tax credits but they didnt take any money off us. It goes from the last tax year not as it is now. He has not gone full time but i checked on the internet how much we would have and it tells me 鎷?5 more than we had before! Im still waiting for our claim to get sorted so i dont know for sure yet. It goes on your joint earnings so if i were you id work it out and look online like i did for a guide before taking the job

It does go down if you earn more, but there is a bit of lee way within price bands, so it depends on wether his pay increase takes you up to the next band or not really.

My husband works 33.75 hours a week and only gets 鎷?2 a week from tax credits,every time he gets a wage rise the money goes down for him but goes up for me because i stay at home to look after the kids.I get 鎷?0 a week to stay at home.If you went out to work as well,then they would take that money from your tax credits.You may qualify for help with childcare if you got a job over 16 hours a week which is a bit of a bonus. I think tax credits it a joke and should be scrapped,they always muck up your payments and either you owe them back-dated money or it%26#039;s the other way around.
