have just been told i must pay over 鎷?000 overpayment of tax credits, I have just been in touch with the tax benifits agency and told them in no uncertain terms that i can%26#039;t repay this sort

of overpayment and if they persist with their mistake, then i would go back to working 16 hrs a week and start claiming child tax credits again... The did%26#039;nt take kindly to this plan of action,and asked me if i could afford 鎷? a month, i said i would consider their offer very seriously and let them know in a few days time...Im coming to the conclusion that i may accept this settlement . Im informed that i posted the forms to them 6 days late and thats the reason for the overpayment, that was 4 years ago...Ive worked it out that it will take me about 65 years to pay them back......Are these people for real.....

The whole system is a complete farce. Because my husband and me are self employed they give us in child tax credit what they think we will earn the following tax year. I got stung last year as we made a reasonable profit the year before and am having to pay all the money they gave me from the year before that. I do this on a monthly basis. This year though because we have made a lousy profit they owe me all the money they didn%26#039;t give me last year as they presumed we%26#039;d make the same good profit and we got nothing so I am trying to get the money that they OWE me!!! It%26#039;s all ridiculous!

lets not talk about the tax credits people!! i have had nothing but mistakes and errors from them.. after taking a year to settle one dispute that was their fault, they then fluffed up my case again and i have been fighting it for just over a year now, even got my MP involved and it still not solved!

The mistakes they make is unbelievable.. this dispute is about my partner moving IN with me.. but the 3rd reply i get it has changed to how my partner had moved OUT!!

now for 3 years they been paying me they been spellign my name fine, but latest report i get.. they have spelt it wrong!

Unfortunately yes - they are allowed to reclaim overpayments for anywhere up to a 5yr period - I would chance your arm and state that it was their mistake that they have taken all this time. So you were 6 days late ....so what!! Why didnt someone at their end pick up on it at the time. Its their mistake not yours. I would go to the CAB for further advice.

whether you agree or disagree with the over payment they%26#039;ll reduce the money you get to recoupe the over payment. There not bothered if your working 30hrs, 16hrs or claiming a benefit they%26#039;ll take it from either working or child tax credits.

Well, in my case they wanted to review my payment so I phoned them up and gave the details.. few days later I got 鎷?500 (YES you reading right) deposited in my account. and a couple of days later I got a letter explaining the details.

Apparently what had happened is that they made a mistake with my last years salary and removed the last zero digit i.e instead of 30,000 they put 3000, which explains why I got this massive amount in child tax credits and working tax credits.

Now of course they assumed a similar amount for the comming year and I am getting a large monthly payout.

I have not had the chance to call them as yet but I am not sure what will happen to the money they already deposited in my account. I would love to keep it if I can..
