My mum recently found out about Child Tax Credits and realised that she could have been claiming them for a number of years. She will be putting in her Tax Credits application now but will only be able to claim a few months of money before my brother is too old for claiming them.
I feel it is such a shame that she missed out on all those years of money she was entitled to.I have heard she may be able to claim back a couple of years of the money. Can anyone give me more details of whether or not this is true and how to do it?We live in the United Kingdom.
Claiming back Tax Cedits?
In the US you can go back three years to claim unclaimed credits. I%26#039;m not up on tax codes in the UK.
Claiming back Tax Cedits?
the general rule is that if you dont apply, you dont get it back
the application can be backdated but only for 3 months from the initial date first contact is made. There may be an appeal proceedure but given your circumstances may prove difficult, the whole tax credit system is riddled with errors, and the helpline is not helpful if anything is out of ordinary. I have found that the local MP has a fast track system to bypass the helpline re hardship cases, try yours, you never know!
Claiming back Tax Cedits?
think they will only backdate to the beginning of the tax year, would still be worth it tho
