The eligibility and forms are so confusing!
I am jumping the gun a bit but am trying to work out what I will/ won%26#039;t be entitled to so I can get some ideas in my head about childcare (what I can afford) and also how long maternity leave I should take!
Is this confusing stuff or what?
btw - I am an educated woman, lol!
Does anybody else find it hard to get their head around tax credits (working and child)?
The easiest way to do it is to either pop onto www.entitledto.co.uk or just ring them up and ask them - normally they%26#039;re quite happy to give you an estimate of what you would get dependant on circumstances. I think you%26#039;re a key worker though aren%26#039;t you? Have you asked about childcare vouchers from your employer yet? I think most of the keyworker employers do them - I think the money gets taken from your wages before you get them - but it also gets taken before tax does.
You%26#039;re right though they%26#039;re stupidly confusing!! On the plus side, everyone gets child tax credit!!

I%26#039;m part way through filling the form out myself %26amp; it%26#039;s a bloody nightmare! I reckon they make it confusing to put people off applying.

They are an absolute nightmare and even when you do get it sorted and give them all the correct information they still find a way of saying they overpaid you!! Maybe they make it as hard as possible to stop people claiming it

Yes, that%26#039;s why I take it to a tax preparer. Not a big box like H%26amp;R Block, but an individual CPA. It%26#039;s really, really worth the money.

Hi there..I feel your pain which is why I use the online tax preparer programs. About all the child care credits, I found out that you cannot use a child care spending account and then take the daycare/child care credit. It%26#039;s either one or the other, but it is best to talk to a tax preparer for what is best for your situation. For me (and most people who make above the poverty line), it is usually a better tax savings to use the daycare spending account. Also, biggest thing you can do to reduce what you are sending to Uncle Sam is to adjust your withholdings from your paycheck, if you haven%26#039;t updated it for your situation. Good Luck!

We get both Working Tax and Child Tax Credits as I%26#039;m not working, my partner is on a low wage and we have a 13 month old.
Child Tax Credit can be claimed by anyone who earns up to 鎷?0,000 per year but obviously its much less if you earn more. For people on the lowest incomes its 鎷?4 per week for the baby%26#039;s first year and then goes down to 鎷?5 per week. We get 鎷?2 per week.
The crazy thing is that if I start working we will lose our Working Tax Credit as we will be earning too much money (if you have a partner then they treat you as a %26quot;couple%26quot; and look at your JOINT earnings, not what just one of you earns - ergo if you both have low paid jobs you can%26#039;t claim two lots of Tax Credits, they will add your wages together and say you%26#039;re no eligible as you earn over 鎷?5,000 pa!), and you can only get help with childcare if you are on Working Tax Credit, so if I started working I%26#039;d have to pay full price for childcare! Its hardly worth it then!
