this is what I read in a newspaper column:
Anyone who gets a rebate of any size will get an additional $300 for each child eligible for the child tax credit in 2008. To qualify, the child must be younger than 17 on Dec. 31, 2008.
So will a child who IS 17 qualify? Or only 16 and under? Not sure how that reads....
Under Bush%26#039;s stimulus plan who qualifies as a child...?
way it states the child must be under 17 on Dec 31 2007 to qualify sorry it says that they will go off your 2007 returns
Under Bush%26#039;s stimulus plan who qualifies as a child...?
If the child has their 17th birthday during 2008, they will not qualify.
Under Bush%26#039;s stimulus plan who qualifies as a child...?
The bill itself that congress passed said %26quot;qualifying child%26quot; so you would probably get the $300 for a kid over 16 whom you could still claim as a qualifying child - up to and including age 18 if they%26#039;re not a student, up to 23 if they are. The cutoff of 16 for the child tax credit doesn%26#039;t sound like it will matter.
Under Bush%26#039;s stimulus plan who qualifies as a child...?
It will be 16 and under only. The wording of the bill refers to IRC Sec 24(c) in defining a qualifying child. Sec 24(c) defines a qualifying child as under age 17 at the end of the tax year. Since this is an advance payment of a 2008 tax credit, the child must not turn 17 in 2008 to be eligible for payment of the $300 credit to the parent.
